Faculty Strengths

• Having an up-to-date eight-semester education plan tailored to the needs of the region and society,

• New physical facilities will be available in a short time,

• We are located in Çanakkale central campus,

• Existence of academic staff with the necessary competence in their field,

  • The journalism department is one of the few departments in its field in Turkey,

• Our academics have the capacity to produce qualified works on their subjects,

• Our academics have the potential to produce quality projects on their subjects,

• Academic staff should have sufficient training in transferring information to students,

• Academic staff-student communication is at the desired level,

• Communication between academic and administrative staff is at the desired level,

  • Administrative staff-student communication is at the desired level

  • Renewing and expanding educational opportunities in line with the ever-changing and digitalizing sector,

• The use of physical facilities built with the latest technology, MO-CAP (Moving Image Capture) studios and digital systems such as the facial movement capture system known as Facial Capture for more realistic motion capture,

• Encouraging students to produce short films through the Trojan Horse Short Film Festival, supporting them with incentives, and ensuring that short films of different genres and themes reach as many audiences as possible within the scope of the festival,

• Providing a qualified platform to discuss cinema and developing international cultural dialogue by organizing workshops, interviews and panels with professionals who are competent in their fields within the Trojan Horse Short Film Festival,

Our academics have the capacity to produce qualified works on their subjects,

   • Our academics produce qualified projects on their subjects and constantly update their potential,

Congress, meeting, graduation, concert, theater etc. Our campus has sufficient physical facilities for organizations,

                                   OPPORTUNITIES

• New legal regulations,

  • The teaching plan has been recently updated,

• New physical facilities will be available in a short time,

• Development of the existing transportation network thanks to the Bosphorus Bridge, which is planned to be completed in 2023,

• Program faculty members are familiar with the current legislation and have the potential to develop university-industry and university-public relations,

• The program faculty are recognized in the national and international academic environment because they have sufficient knowledge and equipment in their fields,

• Having active faculty members,

• Having active administrative staff,

• Having sufficient academic staff to work on national and international projects,

  • The program teaching staff must have sufficient experience, talent and desire for development.

• Program faculty members are familiar with the current legislation and have the potential to develop university-sector university-public relations,

 

 

Weaknesses of the Faculty

• Failure to allocate equipment such as office, fixtures and consumables effectively and equally,

• Lack of collaborative and multidisciplinary work,

• Not providing sufficient economic support to working and performing academic staff,

• Students do not know enough foreign languages and therefore programs such as Fulbright and Erasmus are not given due attention,

• The necessary international contacts and agreements in areas related to social sciences have not been achieved at a sufficient level,

• Problem of not being able to connect to the internet in classrooms,

• Not implementing any career development program within our faculty,

• Students are not motivated enough due to the stress of finding a job after graduation,

• Students have chosen departments without their own awareness,

•The number of classrooms allocated to departments in the building where the faculty is located is numerically insufficient,

• Academic staff's office environments are inadequate even for shared use, and academics do not have a personal office environment.

  •Insufficient provision of computers, printers and various hardware and/or failure to allocate them equally,

• Lack of carrying out scientific or focused projects and involving students in them due to students' lack of interest in the subject,

•Students who choose to avoid being left out do not have sufficient equipment, interest and desire to receive education in the field of communication sciences,

•Students' mental flexibility and analytical thinking skills are quite weak,

•Academicians do not currently use an information management system to collect, analyze and report data regarding all activities and processes of the unit,

•Inability to provide a suitable environment for communication sciences education due to the high number of quotas allocated to the department,

THREATS

• Lack of foreign language and scientific preparation classes,

  • The concerns of academic staff have a negative impact on the trend of scientific work,

• The number of assistant academic staff is lower than the optimal level,

  • Most of the students have very poor command and interest in computer programs,

• Not having sufficient computer laboratories, programs and equipment,

• Due to the increasing tendency to learn English in the private and public sectors, students want to give more importance to foreign languages than scientific knowledge, but they cannot obtain these opportunities at a sufficient level,

  • Students should continue their habits from high school and try to direct instructors to memorize learning in order to pass the course,

  • Students audio-recording lessons, coming to class without books, notebooks or lecture notes, trying to take exams without ID, pen or eraser, and such irresponsible behavior continuing,

  • Lack of a department other than the department advisor that can provide psychological counseling to students on the issues mentioned above.

   •The number of Communication Faculties in Turkey is very high

   • Disruptions and bureaucratic obstacles, budget deficits in updating the training curriculum to be compatible with the latest technology,

•The competitive environment in the sector is challenging.

•The number of academic staff is lower than the optimal level compared to the number of students,

•Students are generally proficient in computer use, digital editing, photo processing programs, etc. Their poor command and interest in programs such as

•Weak interest of students in general in acquiring scientific knowledge,

•Students do not pay attention to orientation trainings
